"To help each child build a life as if it were a work of art." - Dr. Ernest Boyer

Lower School Arts

Dr. Ernest Boyer’s Basic School philosophy holds that the arts are central to a well-rounded education. They are embedded throughout the curriculum to enrich understanding, foster creativity, support diverse learners, and build a vibrant school culture. While K-5 students attend music and art as part of their connect classes, the arts are incorporated across all subject areas.

Three children wearing headphones learn to play a keyboard in a music classroom.

Three students paint a blue wooden stool in a workshop setting.

Middle school students attend required electives (Spanish, Physical Education, Nature, Quest, STEAM, and Core Extension) twice per week and three choice arts electives (Dance, Drama, Showtime Choir, Guitar, Visual Art, Design and Build, Band, Digital Arts) twice per week. Students will also have the opportunity to try one Explore Elective (choices vary from quarter to quarter based on volunteer availability and staff choices) once a week each quarter.
